Joint CSC/CPE-ITS Wireless Pilot

Beginning Fall quarter, 2003, ITS is conducting a new web-based wireless log-on pilot for Mobile Computing in buildings 14 and 20. This pilot is a joint project with the CSC (Computer Science) and CPE (Computer Engineering) departments. This pilot is a proof-of-concept wireless network featuring web-browser-based wireless log-on based upon a user's Cal Poly Unix username and password. Any Cal Poly constituent--student, faculty or staff--with a typical ITS unix account will have access to this new system. (For information on ITS unix accounts, please visit the ITS Service Desk.) All that is required of the user is any laptop or mobile device fitted with wireless, and a typical web-browser. The user simply turns on their computer, opens a web-browser and logs in to the wireless system, and they are then connected; signing up at the Service Desk is not required. However, since the computer/wireless settings on the user's machine are the same as those used in the Mustang Wireless system (as found in the Library and UU), ITS strongly suggests enrolling for Mustang Wireless first at the ITS Service Desk (bldg 14, room 114). There you will find further information on all wireless services at Cal Poly.
