How to get registered and connected

Wireless Service Areas

Wireless Registration Procedure

Area 1 - ITS: For help accessing wireless service contact: Service Desk 756-7000

Step 1:
Bring your wireless-enabled computer by the ITS Service Desk located in Bldg 14, Rm 114, and request a Wireless sign-up form.

Step 2:
Fill out the form and submit it to the Service Desk. Wireless requests will take about 48 hours to process, and you will be sent a confirmation email when your account has been activated. After your form has been processed and you have received your notice that your account is active, you will be able to access the network from any of the Area 1 locations.

Area 2 – Joint CSC/CPE-ITS Wireless Pilot: For help accessing wireless service contact: Service Desk 756-7000

Note: It is highly recommended that you register for Area 1 wireless access prior to accessing Area 2, as your computer’s wireless connection settings must be the same as for Area 1, and the Service Desk can help you verify that those settings are correct.

The network in this area uses an authentication-based system and is accessible by any student or faculty member who has been assigned a Cal Poly Central Unix login name. If you have not yet received a Unix login, call or visit the Service Desk at 756-700, in Bldg 14, Room 114.

Step 1:
Open a web browser window on your computer while you are in any Area 2 location (i.e. bldgs 14 or 20). Any modern web browser with SSL encryption will work.

Step 2:
When your browser tries to connect to any site, you will automatically be redirected to the authentication page. Enter you username and password (which are your Unix login and password) in the appropriate boxes, then click the “Logon User” button and you will be reconnected to your original destination page.

If you do not see the authentication page when you open your browser window, type in the address of the site you wish to go to and you will be automatically redirected to the authentication page.

Step 3:
Once you have been successfully authenticated, you will have complete access to the network.

Area 3 - College: For access to Area 3 wireless service contact: Individual Department Office

Step 1:
Contact the department office for information on connecting to the local wireless network in that building. Each department in Area 3 supports wireless, but you will need to check with each department for specifics.
